From a First Team of Experts to an International Network
CIIC was established in Moscow on 6 May 2022 by a team of area studies experts and public diplomacy practitioners.
In just a few years the Center has grown from its first expert contacts into educational and political programs, electoral expertise and analytics that connect participants from 189 countries.
Key Milestones
Foundation of the Center
CIIC was established in Moscow on 6 May 2022. A team of area studies experts was assembled, and working contacts were built with politicians, parliamentarians, diplomats and public figures around the world. Cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education began, and the “Russia to the World” media expedition was launched.
Expert and Educational Projects
Together with the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Center designed and launched the Young Political Scientists Practicum, the International Congress of Youth Wings of Political Parties, and the School of Electoral Experts. The CIIC team took part in preparing the World Youth Festival, a conference on education as a social institution, and the “Russia — Africa” and “Russia — Latin America” parliamentary conferences. Center experts began providing regular analytical commentary to Russian and foreign media and working at international venues, from the OIC Forum to SPIEF.
Electoral Expertise and International Observation
The Center held the second Young Humanities Scholars Practicum and the second International Congress of Youth Wings of Political Parties. Following the Russian presidential election, CIIC and the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation convened a conference of independent international observers on the future of election observation amid information warfare. Coordinating the international track of the World Youth Festival directorate, the Center enabled the participation of 10,000 foreign guests from 189 countries. The project portfolio widened: the “Russia to the World” media expedition, international conferences on new technologies in agriculture, ecology and healthcare, and support for the 2024 Yalta International Economic Forum.
Grants and the “Horizons of Opportunity” Program
CIIC received grant support from the Gorchakov Fund (the “Path of a Political Analyst” project) and the Presidential Grants Foundation. Together with the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Center designed and launched “Horizons of Opportunity”, an educational program for international students in their final years at Russian universities. The analytics and political consulting practice grew further, and Center representatives served on the international observation mission in the Republic of Abkhazia.
Today
The Center works along three key tracks: public and political engagement; research, education, analysis and consulting; and the international promotion of cooperation initiatives. The second cohort of “Horizons of Opportunity” is under way, with in-person regional stages in Moscow, St Petersburg, Vladivostok and Krasnodar for the 150 participants selected online. CIIC works with Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Presidential Executive Office, and supports compatriots abroad.
